Abrego leads Highland’s veteran softball group

0Comments

Highland softball enters the 2026 season with an experienced core under head coach Samantha Abrego and assistant coach MacKenzie Dunlap, as the Trojans build around a strong senior class from last year’s 19-13 team.

The Trojans will lean on veteran pitching to set the tone. Alyssa Niemann, Rebecca Machuca and Skylar Zoeteman return with experience in the circle, giving Highland multiple reliable options and flexibility in managing games throughout the season.

Defensively, Highland’s senior group provides stability across the field. Jordan Boyd and Gracie Waldron anchor the corner infield, while Erica Phillips brings leadership behind the plate and the ability to contribute in multiple positions. Casey DiSanto adds another experienced presence in the infield, helping maintain consistency on defense.

The now-senior group of Evie Rivera, Jordan Steele, Samantha Zurlis and Jazmine DeJesus adds depth and versatility, with each capable of contributing in different roles. Their experience competing at the varsity level should help Highland navigate key moments during the season.

With a veteran-led roster and continuity throughout the lineup, Highland will look to take a step forward and compete more consistently in conference play this spring.
