Lowell baseball head coach Ben Mahar enters the 2026 season focused on growth as the Red Devils navigate roster turnover while building around an experienced returning core.
Mahar, in his third year leading the program, said Lowell graduated several key contributors but returns players who have competed in meaningful games and are ready for larger roles.
“We graduated a whole bunch of seniors… some pretty key contributors,” Mahar said. “But we have a group of pretty experienced players coming back that have played in some big games.”
Last season included both strong stretches and inconsistency, with Lowell ultimately falling in sectional play against a top opponent. Mahar said that experience has helped shape the team’s offseason focus.
“We played some really good baseball, and then we had stretches of really bad baseball,” Mahar said. “That’s part of a high school season, but we’ve looked at how we were beaten and how we want to improve.”
The program has also benefited from a new facility, which has provided added energy and development opportunities throughout the offseason.
“It’s completely different when you can run a live scrimmage in January or February,” Mahar said. “It gives kids a shot in the arm to come out and give it a try.”
With returning experience and increased program momentum, Mahar believes Lowell is trending in the right direction this spring.
