Cash Washick delivered a steady performance on both sides, but Highland came up short in a 5-3 conference loss to Munster in a competitive baseball matchup.
The game took place April 13 at Munster High School, where Highland stayed within reach throughout but could not overcome a decisive middle-inning surge by the Mustangs.
Highland broke through in the third inning with two runs to briefly take momentum. Washick contributed an RBI and added a triple, helping spark the offense early. Brady Boyd and Nate Phillips each scored a run, while Phillips also drove in a run to support the effort. Brent Woltzen also contributed offensively, helping keep pressure on Munster during key moments. The Trojans added another run in the sixth inning to close the gap, finishing with five hits overall, but were unable to generate enough late offense to complete the comeback.
On the mound, Washick worked all six innings, allowing five runs—just one earned—while limiting damage despite Highland committing three errors behind him. He kept Munster from extending its lead further, giving the Trojans opportunities to stay competitive.
Defensively, Highland showed flashes of solid play but was hurt by key miscues that led to unearned runs. Munster capitalized with a four-run third inning that ultimately proved to be the difference.
