Evie Rivera delivered a strong performance at the plate, but Highland could not keep pace with Lowell in a 14-3 conference softball loss.
The game took place April 13 at Highland High School, where the Trojans started fast before Lowell surged ahead with multiple big innings.
Highland opened the scoring with a run in the first inning and showed consistent contact throughout the lineup, finishing with 12 hits. Rivera led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, scoring two runs and adding a double. Alyce Valiunas added two hits, while Jordan Steele and Addison Barajas each contributed two hits as well. Barajas drove in two runs, and Hailey Thomas added an RBI as the Trojans found success putting the ball in play.
Despite the offensive production, Highland struggled to slow down Lowell’s lineup, which tallied 15 hits and capitalized on scoring opportunities across several innings. The Red Devils broke the game open with four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings, creating separation late.
In the circle, Mila Avina and Samantha Zurlis combined to work all seven innings against a high-powered offense. Zurlis recorded seven strikeouts in relief, helping limit further damage in the later innings.
Defensively, Highland committed just one error, but Lowell’s consistent hitting proved too much to overcome.
