Highland senior Avari Carlisle embarks on her inaugural season of wrestling with enthusiasm and a strong desire to challenge herself in a new environment. Despite being new to the sport, she has quickly embraced the team atmosphere and the opportunity to be part of a growing program.
According to Carlisle, she joined the program after being inspired by her teammate, Alex. “She was really impressive, and I just loved seeing that,” she said. Her decision was also influenced by her excitement for seeing girls excel in sports that have traditionally been male-dominated. “It shows how much a girl can really do and how much power they really have,” Carlisle added.
While still discovering her goals as a wrestler, Carlisle said that the team environment has already been a motivating force. “Just being in the sport, being with the team, having a team to be with… wrestling is just really fun,” she explained. “I just want to see where it takes me. I’m really excited for that.”
With her first meet approaching, Carlisle mentioned that winning is definitely a goal she hopes to pursue.
