Highland High School’s football team is focusing on developing its young talent, with a significant portion of the roster comprised of underclassmen. Head Coach Ben Geffert expressed optimism about the team’s future prospects.
According to Geffert, “We have a chance to return possibly 11 starters on offense and nine to 10 on defense next year.” He emphasized that the experience gained by young players this season will be beneficial in the long run. Geffert also highlighted positive developments at the youth and middle school levels, noting, “Our middle school numbers are up, and our freshmen are developing at a really good pace.” He added, “The future is definitely bright.”
Justin and Jake Slaven commented on the team’s evolving mindset. Justin said, “The attitude has improved a lot,” explaining that if another team scores, they do not give up but instead intensify their efforts. Jake supported his brother’s view, stating, “The will to win has definitely improved.”
With an increasingly robust player pipeline feeding into the varsity program, Geffert remains confident in Highland’s trajectory. He said, “We’re happy with how players are developing.”
