Highland showed grit and determination Friday night but came up short in a 28-0 road loss to Hanover Central in Northwest Crossroads Conference play.
The Trojans’ defense held firm early, forcing punts and keeping the Wildcats from pulling away in the opening quarter. Several key stops near midfield gave Highland chances to stay within striking distance, and the effort from the defensive front was a bright spot throughout the contest.
On offense, Highland worked to establish balance, mixing short passes with inside runs. While the drives often stalled before reaching the red zone, the unit showed flashes of rhythm that can be built upon as the season progresses. The Trojans also gained valuable experience for younger players who stepped into bigger roles.
Despite the final score, Highland’s energy and fight never wavered. The Trojans continued to compete into the fourth quarter, showing resolve against a conference opponent. Coaches pointed to discipline, effort, and tackling as areas that showed improvement, even in defeat.
The result moved Highland to 1-2 overall, with opportunities ahead to regroup in conference play. With continued growth, the Trojans believe they can turn the corner as the season unfolds.
