Highland boys basketball picked up a 50–32 home tournament victory over Whiting.
The game was played on Dec. 22 at Highland High School in Highland, Indiana.
Highland set the tone early, jumping out to a 17–7 lead after the first quarter and extending the advantage to 28–11 by halftime. The Trojans continued to control the pace in the second half, outscoring Whiting 13–12 in the third quarter before closing out the game by limiting the Oilers to nine points in the fourth. Highland’s defense held Whiting to single-digit scoring in two quarters while maintaining steady offensive production.
Justin Slaven led Highland with a game-high 25 points on efficient shooting, anchoring the Trojans on the offensive end. D. Varvaris and Jakob Burelson each added six points, while Cameron Katz contributed five. Highland finished with 24 total rebounds and 11 assists, using balanced ball movement and defensive pressure to keep Whiting from generating consistent offense.
Highland will return to action on Jan. 8 when they travel to Wheeler for a 7 p.m. game.
The two teams last met on Jan. 9 at Highland, where Wheeler earned a 39–36 win.
