Highland High School’s football team is preparing for the 2025 season with a focus on its younger players. Head coach Ben Geffert has expressed confidence in the team’s depth, which he says is stronger than it has been in recent years.
“We’re going to be young, especially up front, but the work these guys have put in shows,” Geffert said. “Our offensive line has really committed in the weight room, and it’s paying off on the field.”
According to Geffert, sophomore Landon Garrison, who played both offense and defense last year, exemplifies the potential within the team. “We’ve got several guys stepping in who are ready to contribute,” he said.
Competition among players has been a driving force for improvement. “This year we’ve got depth,” Geffert remarked. “From the first whistle to the last, they’re pushing each other. That’s something we didn’t have before.”
Veteran players Justin and Jake Slaven have provided stability to the team by setting goals for increased offensive production and more wins overall. Their leadership, combined with younger players gaining valuable experience, gives Highland optimism about both their current performance and future prospects.
“The growth has been tremendous, and it’s showing in practice,” Geffert concluded.
