The Highland Trojans opened their 2025 football season Friday night with a 56–14 loss to Griffith in a non-conference matchup at home. Despite the result, the Trojans showed determination throughout and gained valuable experience against a strong Panthers squad.
Griffith struck early with a balanced offensive attack, using both the run and the pass to build a lead in the first half. Highland responded in the second quarter with a sustained drive that ended in the end zone, cutting into the deficit and giving the home crowd something to cheer about. The Trojans added another touchdown late, showing resilience in the face of a fast-paced opponent.
While the scoreboard leaned heavily in Griffith’s favor, Highland’s effort never wavered. The coaching staff pointed to positives, including stretches of solid line play and glimpses of offensive rhythm, as building blocks for the season ahead. Younger players gained key varsity reps, while returning starters emphasized leadership in the huddle.
With the opener behind them, Highland will regroup and prepare for next week’s road trip to Whiting. The Trojans hope to build on the lessons from Week 1 and continue growing as a unit.
