Highland girls basketball dominates Calumet New Tech in playoff matchup

0Comments

Highland girls basketball opened postseason play with a commanding 66-21 win over Calumet New Tech in a neutral-site playoff matchup. The Class 3A girls basketball playoff matchup took place Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. as part of the IHSAA Class 3A Girls Basketball State Tournament, with Highland setting the tone early and maintaining control throughout all four quarters.

The Trojans used defensive pressure and balanced scoring to create separation early, limiting Calumet New Tech’s offensive opportunities while consistently converting on the other end of the floor. Highland’s ability to force turnovers and control the tempo allowed the Trojans to build a sizable lead and extend it as the game progressed.

Senior Jordan Steele led the way with steady production and leadership, supported by fellow seniors Payton Bailey, Rubi Rubalcaba and Lily Gonzalez, who provided experience and composure in the playoff environment. Juniors Savannah Ballard and Katiana Erb added energy on both ends, helping Highland maintain intensity and depth across the rotation.

The win improved Highland to 16-6 overall and pushed the Trojans deeper into sectional play. With a strong mix of senior leadership and junior contributors, Highland continues to build momentum as postseason competition intensifies.
