Though the Highland High School varsity girls volleyball team entered the season with a 1–5 record, the team’s consistent progress and growing energy on the court suggest a promising trajectory behind the challenging results.
One of the clearest signs of development has been Highland’s increasing aggressiveness in transitions. Players are moving more confidently, disrupting opponents with smart serve-receive and adopting a proactive defensive posture. Even in losses, the Trojans have displayed closer set scores than earlier matches, a testament to growing resilience.
Coaches have also noted leadership emergence among upperclassmen. Post-match film sessions show clearer strategic adjustments made midsets, and younger teammates appear quicker to correct positioning mistakes and maintain rotation discipline.
Additionally, the team’s communication is strengthening. Back-row defenders are calling out opponent tendencies, and setters are syncing better with hitters—both indicators of growing cohesion. If that kind of teamwork continues to improve, Highland may well emerge as a stronger contender as conference play deepens.
