Junior wrestler Josue Ahmad begins the new season with renewed confidence and a clearer understanding of his potential after reaching the semi-state level last winter.
Ahmad said last season shifted his outlook on wrestling and deepened his appreciation for high-level competition. “I gradually changed my mindset on wrestling… I enjoyed it a lot last year,” he said. Competing in tougher tournaments and advancing through regionals opened new opportunities. “Getting the chance to go down semi-state and see this big tournament… I really enjoyed it,” he added.
According to Ahmad, he now enters the season aiming to surpass last year’s finish and return to the state-qualifying conversation. His motivation comes from those closest to him. “My brother is a coach for the middle school, and he’s really driven me to get better… and my mom has been helping me out a lot. So it’s for them,” Ahmad said.
With postseason experience, a stronger mental approach, and year-to-year growth, Ahmad is positioned as one of Highland’s key returners capable of making another deep run.
