Highland junior Simon Martinez has put together an impressive 2025–26 season at 138 pounds, compiling a 29–4 record and emerging as one of the top competitors in the region.
The season has included several notable wins against quality opposition. Martinez opened the year with a technical fall over Noah Sinnott of Hanover Central and later added major decisions against Alexander Kucharz of Lake Central and Noah Prieto of Munster. He also recorded a key decision over ranked opponent Luke Johnson of Chesterton and followed it up with a pin of Prieto in late January, showing the ability to score in multiple ways. Martinez capped his regular-season résumé with another technical fall against Sinnott at the Northwest Crossroads Conference meet, continuing a trend of dominant performances against conference and regional foes.
Despite facing tough losses to highly ranked wrestlers such as Angelo Vargo of Penn and Jacoby Moore of Hobart, Martinez remained consistent throughout the season and demonstrated growth from year to year, improving from 16–13 as a freshman and 24–12 as a sophomore to his current 29–4 mark. His career record now stands at 69–32, and he brings valuable postseason experience, including a third-place finish at the 2025 Frosh-Soph State tournament.
Up Next Martinez will compete in the IHSAA Regional on Feb. 7 at 8 a.m. at Hobart High School.
