Highland places fifth at Lake County Invite

Highland posted multiple podium finishes and strong individual performances Saturday, earning a fifth-place team finish at the Lake County Invitational.

The tournament was held Jan. 10 at the Lake County Invite.

Simon Martinez led the Trojans with a championship performance at 138 pounds, scoring 31.5 team points. Landen Garrison added a runner-up finish at 150 with 24 points, while Josue Ahmad placed third at 126, contributing 22.5 points. Gavin Wilson followed with a fifth-place finish at 132, and Aden Nelson placed sixth at 285.

Additional point scorers included Benjamin Flick, who took seventh at 120, Tyler Bishop with a seventh-place finish at 157, and Kaeleb Mortimer at 144. Fabian Magallanes (165) and Aidan Esquivel (215) also competed and added to the team effort.

Highland totaled 140.5 points in the final team standings, using a combination of a weight-class title, a runner-up finish and several top-eight placers to secure a top-five showing against a competitive field.

Up next, Highland will compete at the IHSAA Sectional on Friday, Jan. 31, beginning at 8 a.m. at Portage High School.
