Jordan Steele returns as one of Highland’s most impactful two-way players and enters the season on the verge of reaching one of the program’s all-time scoring records.
According to Steele, she adapted to a new role last season, transitioning from point guard to a scoring and pressure-handling position. “It was definitely different… I wasn’t the point guard, so I handled pressure and shot the three well,” she said. Steele delivered some of her best performances under postseason intensity, saying, “There was a lot on me during sectionals and regionals, and I handled that pretty well.” This year, she hopes to expand her playmaking abilities. “I want to improve on my assists… I think I can get that up,” she added.
Steele draws deep motivation from her family and is pursuing a milestone set at home. “My family plays a big role… a big motivation is breaking my sister’s record,” she said. Her sister, Taylor Steele, is Highland’s second all-time scorer with 1,569 points, while Jordan currently has 1,385 points. With fewer than 200 points needed, this chase becomes a centerpiece of her senior season.
A mix of upbeat music with her sister before games and calming Christian music during warmups helps Steele focus. Confident, experienced, and motivated, she enters the year as one of Highland’s leaders both on and off the floor.
