The Highland High School Trojans girls track and field team charged to multiple first-place finishes at the Maverick HSR Meet, an invitational meet, featuring strong regional competition.
The results highlight strong performances by several athletes. The meet was held on March 14 at Purdue-Lambert Fieldhouse.
Highland’s top performer was junior Kennedy Stephens, who captured the 55-meter dash title in 7.35 seconds and followed with another victory in the long jump (19′0.5″), giving the Trojans two major individual wins and establishing herself as one of the meet’s standout athletes; her speed and explosiveness helped Highland secure points early and maintain momentum throughout the competition.
The Trojans added another individual championship through Aniya Sole, who earned first place in the 55-meter hurdles (8.62), while Megan White contributed valuable sprint points with a third-place finish in the 55 meters (7.58) and Selena Govea strengthened the field-event scoring with a tie for third in the high jump (4′8″). Highland’s relay lineup also delivered a highlight performance, as Sole, White, Kaila Smith, and Stephens combined to win the 4×200 relay in 1:48.70, showcasing the Trojans’ depth and speed and reinforcing their position among the meet’s strongest sprint programs.
Stephens, along with Aleksandra Bastaic (wrestling) and Jordan Steele (basketball), was proudly recognized by the School Town of Highland School Board “for their incredible success both in their sports and in the classroom. All three were named All-State athletes,” according to the board.
