Highland Veteran Alex Bastaic Pursues Fourth State Title After Injury Comeback

Senior Alex Bastaic, a prominent figure in Indiana’s girls wrestling scene, is set to return this season as a leader on the Highland roster. Known for her achievements, she is considered a major force within the state.

A multi-time state champion, Bastaic enters her final high school season with a focus on both competition and personal growth.

According to Bastaic, she first joined wrestling after realizing she needed a sport that matched her high energy.

“I was too aggressive for my soccer team when I was like six,” she said.

After receiving a flyer for the Highland Wrestling Club, she decided to try the sport.

“I fell in love with it since then,” said Bastaic.

Bastaic is currently working back from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery as she prepares for another championship run.

“I just came out from ACL surgery… I’m getting back into wrestling right now. I just want to continue to get better,” she said

Her goals extend beyond competition as well.

She expressed her desire to be “the best version that I can be in wrestling and on the mat and off the mat.”

With the potential to earn her fourth state title, Bastaic remains a central figure in Highland’s continued rise and serves as a role model for the program’s younger athletes.
