Highland High School’s head coach, Ben Geffert, known for his defensive acumen, has highlighted significant advancements in the team’s offensive capabilities during the offseason.
“Our offense has done an outstanding job,” Geffert said. “We return a lot of people, and there’s familiarity with how Coach McCormick calls his offense. They’ve been executing at a really high level since early summer.”
According to Geffert, the Trojans’ defense is also progressing under a new scheme. “They’ve done a great job learning how we teach it and how we want it executed,” he said. “Over the past couple weeks, it’s really evened out between both sides of the ball.”
Competition during practice sessions has been instrumental in driving this improvement. “We didn’t have this kind of depth last year,” Geffert remarked. “Now from the first whistle to the last, the players are pushing each other.”
Quarterback Jake Slaven expressed his focus on involving his teammates in plays. “For me, it’s about getting my teammates involved, whether it’s through the air or on the ground,” he explained.
Highland anticipates that balanced progress will bolster their confidence as they approach Week 1.
