Brothers Justin and Jake Slaven are entering the 2025 season with a focus on leading Highland football to more victories. Head coach Ben Geffert highlights their maturity as a critical example for younger teammates.
“They want to be the guys with the ball in their hands or making the play,” Geffert said. “That leadership has been vital, especially as we bring sophomores into varsity roles.”
According to Justin, who plays as both a receiver and defender, he aims to make an impact on both sides of the ball. “I want more catches, more touchdowns, and to probably lead the team in tackles,” he said. “But the main thing is more wins and better teamwork.”
Jake, serving as the Trojans’ quarterback, emphasizes efficiency in his approach. “I just want to put the ball in the end zone,” he said. “For myself, it’s about getting teammates more involved and scoring however we can.”
Geffert believes that the brothers’ approach is shaping the team’s culture positively. “They push others to raise their level of play,” he said.
Highland hopes that dynamic playmaking, paired with improved resilience, will help the Trojans turn close contests into victories.
