The Highland boys basketball team is preparing for the 2025–26 season with a focus on leadership and development under the guidance of fifth-year head coach JD Fabian.

The Trojans concluded the previous season with a 10-14 record and have since graduated four seniors. This has left a young group eager to demonstrate their capabilities in a competitive conference. The upcoming season will commence on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 7 p.m. Central Time at Westville High School.

According to Fabian, the team will not feature any seniors this year. Instead, they will rely on juniors Justin Slaven and Cameron Katz to lead a roster predominantly composed of underclassmen. Slaven, who participates in three sports, brings athleticism and energy to the team, while Katz returns as an adept point guard known for his high basketball IQ. “These two know the expectation,” Fabian said. “They’ve got to lead by example and set the tone for the younger guys.”

Both players reinforced their coach’s message by highlighting the importance of communication, patience, and teamwork. “We just keep everyone locked in and working hard,” Slaven said. Katz mentioned that consistent ball movement and shot selection would be crucial for success as they work to replace significant scoring from last season.

Following their opener, Highland is set to host Calumet New Tech on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 7 p.m. Central Time.
